Art Enrichment
Assist teachers with art curriculum in whatever capacity is needed. Prepare or assist with projects the teacher determines. Coordination with the classroom, the teacher is essential and will determine the hours required of volunteers. Supplies will be provided. This is an ongoing activity and is tailored to volunteer's availability.
Big "G" Box Tops
Volunteers collect and count box tops submitted by the classrooms. These earn points for Briarwood that will be redeemed for cash. Flexible hours - daytime or evening.
Book Fair
Volunteers are needed to help set up and run the book fairs, including preview days for classrooms and at least one evening for purchasing books. Daytime and evening shifts are available.
Carnival This is one of our biggest and the most fun event! Volunteers help with planning and preparation, run the games and activities, sell wristbands, and serve food. Something for everyone! The planning committee works throughout the school year; the event is scheduled for a Friday, May 18.
Field Day Volunteers are needed during the event (last two hours of the school day) to run carnival-like events. This is a fun outdoor event that the kids look forward to all year.
Fifth Grade GraduationVolunteers help with decorations and refreshments for Fifth Grade Graduation Ceremony. We have a nice tradition whereby 4th grade parents volunteer so that parents of 5th Graders can enjoy the event. Flexible hours; the graduation ceremony usually takes place on an afternoon during the week before school lets out in June.
Grants
Volunteers help write grants for educational programs and supplies at Briarwood. Guidelines and sample grants are provided. Time involved is approximately 5-8 hours per grant and you decide how many you have time to write. Daytime availability to communicate with Briarwood staff but this can be done by phone or email; the rest can be done at any time of day. Busiest time is in the fall.
Humanitarian
Volunteers help organize such events as Food Drive and Holiday Gift Giving, and/or other events to support families in need. Flexible hours are available.
Legislation Gather information on legislative issues that affect schools and our children. This comity provides an opportunity to attend October conference in Ellensburg. After that, about one volunteer hour per month. This is an ongoing committee with flexible hours and dates.

Jog-A-Thon ~Run like the wind!~This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Event will take place March 22, 2007. Volunteers help days of with setup/tear down of course, punch/count lap cards and cheer the kids on!
Music Enrichment/Winter Choir Concert Committee members help plan a holiday choral performance for grades K-5, to be held in December. Weekly rehearsals begin in October and occur before and after school. Need help with rehearsals, publicity/program, refreshments, and accompanists.
NewsletterA committee, who collects and edits articles, gathers photos of school events, arranges for copies and distributes our monthly PTA newsletter. Flexible hours, daytime or evenings.
Nominating Committee This committee is elected at the Fall General PTA meeting. The committee is vital to the PTA as they are responsible for recommending individuals for next year's Executive Board. The committee meets in the winter months and presents a slate for election at the General PTA Meeting in February. Committee meeting dates/times are determined by its members.
Outdoor Learning Experience (a.k.a. Camp Colman)
Volunteers assist with the coordination of the 5th grade outdoor learning trip focusing on environmental education. Includes providing a parent information night.
Reflections
This is a national PTA program, where students show their creativity in the areas of visual arts, music and writing. Committee members will publicize the event and set up the awards night. Most of the work can be done in the daytime or evening.
School Banking Work with Washington Mutual and students to open and maintain bank accounts one morning per week. Committee members collect envelopes, record and track deposits, and send home prizes.

This is an ongoing activity and tailored to volunteer's availability.
Skating Parties Committee members help with event publicity, ticket sales, and coordination. Flexible hours for the pre-event planning.
Spirit Sales
Committee members select Briarwood logo items to offer for sale (T-shirts, etc.), coordinate production with the vendor, publicize, take orders, and distribute products. Hours for this fall project are flexible.
Staff Appreciation Committee members help plan and provide refreshments at luncheons for the Briarwood staff. The events take place during the day, but some folks also help by simply dropping off refreshments on the morning of the event.
Student Directory
Volunteers update our database with student information, then design and publish the annual PTA student directory. This project takes place in October.
Talent Show
Committee reviews schedules and runs rehearsals, plans staging, costumes, and refreshments. The program occurs in the spring. There's a job to suit any schedule!
Yearbook
This is an important ongoing committee that documents the history and memories of Briarwood students. Committee needs photographers and someone to coordinate sales/distribution.
